YOUTH TRAINING
Our Youth Training Scheme
We do not wish to leave out young people aged 16 years and above that have dropped out of school. Many of the young boys are forced to resort to gambling, financial fraud, thuggery and other criminal acts just to survive while some of the girls fall into teenage pregnancy and child marriage.
Our skills training programme is aimed to ensure that our young people are positively engaged and stay out of trouble. Through this programme, they can learn a trade and obtain skills to enable them to earn a living and help their families with household costs. The young people are currently being trained in tiling, hair-dressing, electric wiring, and dress making. Others are training in welding, plumbing, and painting.
We have engaged local tradespeople in Amaimo community to provide training and mentoring for the young people, while our project coordinator goes on regular inspection visits to the various training sites to conduct periodic and mid-term reviews. A final review is also conducted to certify each trainee’s readiness to graduate at the end of their training period.
Every trainee will be awarded a certificate on successful completion of their programme and Every Village Matters will help to set them up in business. We will also provide any initial support needed to ensure they stay in business.
Our trainees are currently being sponsored by our generous supporters including members of the Amaimo community. We plan to train a minimum of five young people from the community each year and ultimately establish a trading hub to service the local people and other communities beyond Amaimo, while building community entrepreneurship.

Chiamaka’s story is one of transformation, achieved through resilience and hope.
After finishing secondary school, Chiamaka found herself at home with no opportunities to further her education or secure employment due to a lack of skills and experience. That was until Every Village Matters stepped in. In October 2023, our Project Coordinator, Mr Udochukwu, having noticed her potential, introduced her to our Youth Training Scheme.
Chiamaka has now completed her training as a hairdresser and makeup artist at a thriving beauty salon in Amaimo town center, under the mentorship of Mrs. Nkeiruka. In her one year of training, she has honed her craft, gaining both technical skills and business acumen to prepare for a future of independence.
After Chiamaka’s graduation in December 2024, Every Village Matters remained committed to her success. We supported her to launch her own business by providing her with the tools and resources she needed to start a sustainable career.
Chiamaka’s dream doesn’t stop there—she hopes to earn enough money to continue her education and, one day, give back by training other young people facing similar challenges.
Her journey is a testament to the power of opportunity, mentorship, and community support. We are proud to have played a role in her success and look forward to seeing her flourish.”

Chidiebube’s Path to a Brighter Future
Chidiebube’s journey away from hardship has been shaped by perseverance and a newfound hope.
Forced to drop out of secondary school in his third year due to financial struggles, Chidiebube has spent his early teenage years doing menial jobs just to survive. With seven siblings and a family struggling to make ends meet, opportunities seemed scarce.
However, through our Youth Training Scheme, hope was restored when Chidiebube was given a chance to learn a trade and build a sustainable future. With his passion and determination, he embraced this opportunity wholeheartedly.
As part of his training, Every Village Matters provided Chidiebube a new bank account and a brand-new mobile phone—essential tools for managing his work and earnings as he embarks on his career as a tradesperson.
Beyond financial stability, Chidiebube now foresees a bigger purpose for his life. His dream is to not only support his family but also inspire other young people to break free from the cycle of poverty. He hopes to mentor other young people, guiding them away from life on the streets towards a future of opportunity and self-sustenance.
His story is a powerful reminder that when given the right support, young people like Chidiebube can transform their lives—and, in turn, uplift their communities.
